Bamboo is my all

Our home is the sea of bamboo, bamboo charcoal products are everywhere. We’re acclimating. A modern home in a traditional neighborhood brings lots of stares, especially when you haven’t had a chance to order shades for the 16-foot wide, 10-foot tall sliding glass doors to your living room with bamboo flooring. Cars slow down as they go by, and walkers sometimes wave. We wave back, even if we have no idea who they are. Bamboo garden structures is a good idea,it’s very fresh, natur and close to nature.

We’re starting to enjoy the house, especially our combined living room/ kitchen where it’s a pleasure to entertain. I also really like my tiny office on the second floor. Sitting in my bamboo chair, I see only tall trees. When I open the windows, I hear the birds singing and the kids playing outside.

Of course, we’re far from settled. We’ve done no landscaping yet. Our entire lot is covered in mulch, and the sunken courtyard area in the front is a sodden, breeding ground for mosquitos. Our front door is covered with the critters. We’re hiring a contractor to do hardscaping and tree planting, which we expect will be complete in the fall.

Our builder still has things to finish and others to fix. We don’t know, for instance, what some of the light switches are supposed to do. Serious Materials, which made our windows, has to fix a leak in one of them and provide screens for the living room’s sliding doors.

We’re preparing paperwork to have the house certified by the U.S. Green Building Council and the National Association of Home Builders. We’re shooting for the top rating, but having gone through the exhausting process of building a custom home.
